[FINNEY COUNTY, Kan.]

Garden City Fire Department and Finney County EMS responded to a Finney County farmstead on August 11, following a building explosion that caused multiple surrounding buildings to catch on fire.

The explosion was reported to happen Wednesday, just after 3:00 p.m., in the area of Williams and Kathy’s Road, just west of Garden City.

The initial building was originally believed to be the former Crazy House off U.S. highway 50, but this has since been stated otherwise.

The cause of the explosion was said to be propane bottles left inside. The building was completely destroyed.

Thick smoke could be seen well within and outside Garden City limits.

“Finney County EMS did not evaluate or treat any civilians due to this incident but we did provide standard firefighter rehabilitation services to ensure the safety of the GCFD personnel,” said Skylar Swords, Director of Finney County EMS.

Finney County EMS and Garden City Fire Department crews battled the blaze for over two hours in temperatures exceeding 90 degrees.

Finney County Sheriff’s Office were also on the scene.
