The Dodge City Community College spirit squad will be heading to Hutchinson, Kans. on March 7, to compete in the Region VI Cheer and Dance Championships for the first time in school history.
“We are excited to showcase to the region the work that has been put in this season here in Dodge City,” said Head Coach Michael Brewster. “The Region VI Championships will be a great start to the competition season and competitive program.
“Bringing home a Region VI Championship will be an incredible accomplishment for this program as we continue to push towards our goals of winning a NCA National Championship title.”
The Conquistadors will compete with other Kansas teams from Pratt, Independence, Coffeyville, Neosho, Allen, and Cloud County in the Small Coed Team competition.
In the Small Coed Group Stunt competition, they will compete against two groups from Hutchinson, one group from Pratt, and one from Allen.
In the Coed Partner Stunt competition, their only foe will be a stunt couple from Coffeyville.
The Small Coed Group Stunt division will feature Allison Sullivan, Ashlyn Beard, Ryleigh Bates, and Thomie Griffin, while the Partner Stunt Division will feature the duo of Keegan Jones and Cassy Brooks.
“I am excited for these student athletes to get a chance to perform and compete this weekend,” said Conquistador Athletic Director Jake Ripple. “They work hard every day just like the rest of our student-athletes. They should be very proud of where their program is right now.”
In anticipation of the competition, the spirit squad will be hosting a showcase of their routine for the campus and community, in the DC3 student activity center on March 3 at 5:15 p.m.
Masks are required to be worn inside the Student Activity Center at all times during the event.
