Judd WeilFebruary 12, 2021

The Catholic Diocese of Dodge City announced that the Kansas Bureau of Investigation is investigating an allegation of abuse of a minor made against Bishop John E. Brungardt.

“When I learned of the allegation, I immediately informed Archbishop Joseph Naumann, the Metropolitan of our region,” said Brungardt in his official statement.

Brungardt has denied the allegations and in his statement said he welcomes the investigation underway and intends to fully cooperate.

In addition, Brungardt has stepped away from his duties as bishop.

In his place, the Congregation of Bishops has since appointed Most Reverend Gerald Vincke, Bishop of Salina, as Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese of Dodge City.

“Due to the ongoing investigation, no further details can be shared at this point,” said the Catholic Diocese of Dodge City in their press release.

Any suspicion of abuse or known abuse should be reported to law enforcement.
