The Dodge City Community College football program ended a bizarre Spring 2020 season with a convincing 65-14 victory over Highland Community College.
With some key returners in place, the Conquistadors look to carry that momentum into a quick turnaround for a Fall 2021 season.
Following a home-heavy schedule in 2020, including a home-stand of four consecutive games opening that year, the Conquistador sees their 2021 schedule even out this fall.
The Conquistadors open in Dodge City at Memorial Stadium, September 4 when they welcome Iowa Western at 1:00 p.m. for a non-conference tilt followed by three consecutive road contests.
They will travel to Coffeyville, Kans. on September 11, Butler, Kans. on September 18, and Fort Scott, Kans. on October 2, following a September 25 bye.
DCCC’s first conference home game of the year will be October 9 when they welcome the Garden City Broncbusters for a Saturday evening.
Following an October 16 trip to Independence, Kans. to take on the Independence Pirates, the Conquistadors close their regular season with back-to-back home contests.
From there, they take on the defending national champion Hutchinson Blue Dragons on October 23 and end their regular season by taking on the Highland Scotties on October 30.
“Our schedule is very challenging this year, as we will be on the road the majority of the season,” said Conquistador Head Football Coach Ricky Coon. “We have a quality opponent coming in for the season opener in Iowa Western. They are a class program and Coach Strohmeier does as good of a job as anybody in the country and I am excited to see how we match up against a program like that right away.
“Our conference schedule, as usual, will be extremely tough. With the KJCCC choosing to go back to a playoff system this season, we are going to battle to be in the top half to host a playoff game come November.”
The Conquistador football team will be handing out free tickets to their home opener as part of the Dodge City Community College parade group during the annual Dodge City Days Parade on July 31.
Date or time changes to games are possible moving forward and should be watched for.
