East Side of Garden City Without Power for Six Hours after DUI Accident

A DUI accident in Garden City, Kan. on Oct. 8 resulted in the entire east side of the city being without power for approximately six hours, according to the Garden City Police Department (GCPD).


At around 10:15 p.m., GCPD were dispatched to the area of N. Campus Drive and E. Fair Street for an injury accident.


Upon arrival, officers observed a Dodge Charger, driven by David Guerrero, 27, Garden City, had collided with an electric pole, causing extensive damage to the vehicle and other electric poles.


“Due to the damage, electricity on the entire east side of Garden City was out for approximately six hours,” said GCPD.


The investigation determined Guerrero was suspected of driving recklessly and being under the influence.


Guerrero was taken into custody and lodged in the Finney County Jail for DUI. Guerrero had minor injuries but refused medical treatment.


According to GCPD, the total estimated loss of the vehicle and the electric poles is over $100,000.
