Ford County Fire and EMS will be hosting a town hall at the Saint John’s Parish Center in Spearville, Kans on Feb. 27, to discuss the need for first responders in the Spearville community.
Ford County’s emergency medical jurisdiction extends to the city limits of Spearville, but in recent years the number of EMS responders in Spearville have fallen to near critical levels.
“With the addition of a nursing facility within the city in the future, the time is now to prepare,” said Ford County Fire and EMS on their Facebook page.
Local employers, citizens interested in becoming first responders, community partners and mostly, those that have employment during the day in Spearville are encouraged to attend the forum.
“We have an ambulance over there but are having trouble staffing it on a consistent basis,” said Fire and EMS Chief Rob Boyd. “We are offering a first responder class in an attempt to get more staff in Spearville.”
The first responder training class will begin in April and end in June.
Those who take the class and pass the required testing, in addition to offering their services to the City of Spearville and Ford County, will be reimbursed the costs of the class.
Saint John’s Parish Center is located at 204 Main Street and the town hall will start at 2 p.m.
Social distancing and COVID-19 precautions are recommended.
