Dodge City Police Department officers have made four arrests as of March 24 in the murder of 18-year-old Zacarias Giannino, who’s body was found on March 21.
At approximately 4 p.m. on March 23, DCPD officers arrested a 19-year-old, Tyree Jackson, and a few hours later, a 31-year-old female, Lakendria Lewis, both Dodge City residents.
Both subjects were booked into the Ford County Jail on the charge of Murder in the first degree.
Murder in the first degree is considered an off-grid felony in Kansas, with a maximum sentence of life in the Department Corrections.
Two additional arrests were subsequently made overnight.
The first, a juvenile female, age 16, from Dodge City, was arrested for an active warrant.
The second, a 17-year-old male from Dodge City was arrested on Interference with Law Enforcement & Criminal Desecration.
Criminal Desecration is described as the unauthorized interference and or control of human remains.
Charges will be filed with the Ford County Attorney’s Office.
“At this time, it is believed that 18-year-old Zacarias Giannino was killed by a single gunshot to the head during the early morning hours of January 28, 2021, in VFW Park, located at 12th Ave and Cedar St. in Dodge City,” said DCPD Chief Drew Francis via press release on the DCPD Facebook page. “Giannino’s body was hidden outdoors in a nearby but secluded area.
“The extremely low temperatures that followed helped to preserve the condition of the remains.”
Giannino’s body was determined to be about a few weeks old before it was found.
The investigation is still ongoing.
