Hendrickson Wins 2021 Miss Kansas Outstanding Teen Title

The title for 2021 Miss Kansas Outstanding Teen was won by Gracie Hendrickson, representing Johnson County on June 12 in Pratt, Kans.


The pageant was held at Pratt Community College’s Carpenter Auditorium and hosted nine competitors.


Competitors from around Kansas entered this year’s contest, vying for the chance to win up to $10,000 in scholarships for continued educational opportunities in the Miss Kansas Outstanding Teen competition.


Categories for evaluation by a panel of five judges included, fitness, evening wear, talent and interview question events.


Hendrickson, from Newton, was awarded $4,000 for finishing first place.


Hendrickson took her title home Saturday, with a stunning and resonating cover of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow.”


Hendrickson was also a winner in the evening wear competition and by a separate panel of judges, the number one choice for the Teens in Action Award.


“There are a million types of beauty but the most important and most beautiful is that which comes from inside a person,” said Hendrickson during the interview portion of the competition.


First runner-up and winning $1,500 was Miss Augusta Annie Turpin of Wichita, Kans., who was also the first place talent winner with a tap dance to “Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend.”


In a two-way tie, Turpin won Kansas People’s Choice Award, tied for first in achievement awards and was a finalist for the Teens in Action award.

Second runner-up and winning $1,000 was Miss Metro Kansas City Kaylee Brundgardt of Lenexa, Kans.


Brungardt was a top-three finalist in the Teens in Action competition, and tied first place for the Kansas People’s Choice Award.


Additional titleholder’s competing this year included Miss Wichita Trudy Smith of Augusta, Kans., Miss Boot Hill Dymond Salem of Dodge City, Kans., Miss Cowboy Capital Julia Mead of Dodge City, Kans., Miss Frontier Hanna Reed of Eureka, Kans., Miss Dodge City Kami Breese of Ulysses, Kans. and  Miss Southwest Alyssa Gregg of Ulysses, Kans.


The 2021 version of Miss Kansas Outstanding Teen was held apart from the 2021 Miss Kansas Competition which is set to take place on July 8, 9 and 10 in Pratt.
