Liberal Police Department have arrested an 18-year-old male following a sudden and suspicious fire at the National Beef Processing facility that occurred on April 18.
According to a National Beef press release at around 12:45 a.m. that Sunday, a minor fire was reported at their processing facility in Liberal, Kans.
Subsequently, the Liberal Fire Department arrived and extinguished, what is being called, an isolated fire in the box room.
According to the initial press release, “there were no personnel injuries, structural damage or product damage from the incident.”
Normal production was said to be able to resume through the week.
National Beef began working with local authorities regarding the ongoing investigation of the incident, to which on April 21, Liberal Police Department revealed information about.
LPD stated that after the surveillance footage the night of the fire, an 18-year-old male was observed in the area prior to the 9-1-1 call.
“Investigating officers were able to determine that he intentionally started the fire,” said Liberal Police Department in their press release.
The suspect was arrested and charged with aggravated arson and placed in the Seward County Jail.
