An accident in Rooks County, on April 28, resulted in the death of 16-year-old Carole Leanne Adamson of Plainville and the injury of a 21-year-old woman, while they were standing outside a disabled vehicle on the K-18 Kansas highway.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, a westbound 2010 Chevrolet Silverado struck the disabled 1997 GMC Jimmy on the shoulder of the highway, causing it to strike a 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 in turn.

The crash was reported at 9:42 p.m. Wednesday night, about three miles west of Plainville in Rooks County.

The KHP crash log stated, a westbound 2010 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck struck a 1997 GMC Jimmy sport utility vehicle that was disabled on the shoulder of the highway.

The Silverado overturned and came to rest on its top in the roadway, while its impact caused the GMC to strike the Dodge Ram. The GMC then entered the north ditch.

The KHP said Adamson of Plainville, who was standing outside the GMC during the crash, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The second pedestrian, Maranda Payton-Louise Kuhl of Sibley, Iowa, who was standing outside the Dodge pickup truck, was transported to Hays Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries from the crash.

The 20-year-old driver of the Silverado, Zebulun Thomas Cole of Stockton, Kans. was taken to Rooks County Health Center for treatment of possible injuries.

The KHP said Cole was wearing a seat belt.
