Semi Catches Fire after Collision in Finney County

A Garden City truck driver had to evacuate their vehicle before it caught on fire, following a collision accident with another semi in Finney County the morning of June, 19.


According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, at a 10:05 a.m., the driver of the Kenworth semi, Alonso Juarez Hernandez, 31 was westbound on U50 Highway inside the west bound lane.


The second semi-truck, a Peterbuilt driven by Rodolfo Arrieta Torres, 47, Garden City, was eastbound on U50 at mile marker 71 in the inside east bound lane, stopped to turn left on industrial road.


Juarez Hernandez crossed the center line with his Kenworth, striking Arrieta Torres’s Peterbuilt in a head-on angular impact as the latter attempted to complete his left turn.


The Peterbuilt was disabled in the road, while the Kenworth traveled west before coming to rest in the south ditch.


Juarez Hernandez was able to evacuate the truck before it was engulfed in flames.


The KHP crash log reported, both drivers had their safety restraints on.
