Two Escape from Home Fire via Basement, $144,000 in Damages

Garden City Fire Department and Garden Police Department battled a residential home structure fire on June 25.

 

Around 8:30 p.m., GCPD officers and the GCFD responders were dispatched to the 1700 block of Hattie Street for a smoke investigation.

 

Upon arrival, officers observed smoke coming from 1707 Hattie Street.

 

Officers learned that a fire began in a short hallway between the interior garage door, kitchen and stairs to the basement.

 

Two occupants of the home at the time of the fire, evacuated through basement windows.

 

Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire and there was no report of injuries.

 

The estimated loss for the home is $144,000, and the investigation is ongoing.
