Ulysses Teen Arrested in Connection to Park Shooting

A 13-year-old male has been arrested in connection to the fatal April 28 shooting of 14-year-old Christopher Garcia, according to the Kansas Bureau of Investigation on May 13.



Around 4 p.m. the Grant County Sheriff’s Office arrested the Ulysses teen for second-degree murder, criminal possession of a firearm and possession of stolen property.



KBI spokesperson Melissa Underwood said the 13-year-old was transported to the Southwest Kansas Regional Juvenile Detention Center in Garden City.




Christopher Garcia was shot in the face and neck at Russ Binney Park by what was at the time believed to be a stolen hand gun.



Six teenagers were seen fleeing the crime scene.


Garcia was airlifted to Ascension Via Christi in Wichita, Kans. where he died on May 2.
